The Newstand

Preface

Jan, 10th , 2023… San Antonio River Walk, somewhere close to the Jones Street bridge…around 8:15pm after the sun has gone down on an unseasonably warm day.

About halfway through a run/walk to get outside, spend some time together and blow off some steam, we simultaneously stumbled into the “what do we want to do with our lives?” conversation (a perfectly suitable topic to dive into while running and winded). We decided whatever we did moving forward, it was going to be together. The good and bad news was that a speech therapist and chef don’t exactly have a ton of crossover on the professional skill set Venn diagram and with that, anything was possible. Then she said: “what about a coffee shop?” and that was it…we were off to the races…

…to create a space…an experience…a feeling…of being made to feel welcome. A place you can go to feel comfort, to explore, to connect with old friends while making new ones. A place that can be your Tuesday evening or Saturday morning… a place that welcomes all as they are and takes what it does seriously but never takes itself seriously…a place for the neighborhood… a place for you.
